Kitchen Cookware: How to Take Care of it Properly

Kitchen Cookware: How to Take Care of it Properly

Your kitchen cookware should be properly taken care of if you want them to last longer. Otherwise, you could end up spending thousands of dollars for replacement. Most importantly, your cookware plays a big part in the quality of food that you prepare. If they’re in good condition, whipping up sumptuous meals will be easy!

In this post, we’ll talk about some of the best ways you can use and care for your cookware properly. Let’s begin!

Non-Stick Ceramic

Non-stick pans are usually made with synthetic plastic coatings, like the ever-popular Teflon. However, there have been controversies surrounding it. This is why there’s a growing preference for non-stick ceramic pans instead.

Ceramic is a sand-based coating that is applied to the pan. It is then cured for a non-stick finish. By doing so, this won’t evaporate, chip, or flake.

Cleaning a non-stick ceramic plan requires you to cool the pan fully. This is to avoid thermal shock; otherwise, the cool water can “shock” the pan that can cause damage and warping. Instead, use warm, soapy water and a gentle sponge once it’s fully cooled.

You can put it in the dishwasher, but most detergents used for other kitchen stuff can be abrasive, damaging the ceramic pans’ non-stick coating over time.

Cast-Iron Enamel

You probably have heard of the wonders of cast iron today. Indeed, it’s so fun to cook with it. In fact, it is considered by many as the best when it comes to heat distribution because the entire pan’s surface will be evenly heated.

If you have cast iron, you need to maintain it properly. The good news is, it’s easy to clean. Use warm soapy water and a non-abrasive sponge for this. Again, it’s best to let the pan cool down before you wash it to avoid thermal shock. Finally, although cast iron is dishwasher-safe, it’s still better to hand wash it.

Stainless Steel

Stainless steel features an aluminum or copper core, which makes them better conductors of heat. It’s sturdy and durable, which is why you see a lot of these at home and professional kitchens. Stainless steel can handle high-heat cooking, but you need to ensure you get high-quality ones.

Clean it by letting heavier messes soak in warm water or simmer it on low heat with water for a few minutes to help loosen stubborn bits. Usually, this is dishwasher-safe, but again, you can’t go wrong with handwashing it.

Take Care of Your Kitchen Cookware

By now, you’re aware of how important it is to invest in high-quality cookware; and they don’t come cheap. That’s why you need to know how to maintain them properly. Ceramic, cast iron, and stainless steel are the most common materials used for cookware today, and each requires similar maintenance.

In a Nutshell

The bottom line here is, when you know how to take good care of your cookware, it will take good care of you. You’re looking at years and years of the best cooking experience that will save you a lot of money.
