About Chef Drew

Drew developed a passion for cooking at a young age. His first restaurant job came at 17 years old in an upscale steak house in Virginia. After working in various kitchens, his quest for learning led him to enroll at Johnson & Wales University in Charleston to pursue an education in culinary arts and hotel and restaurant management. He was a part of the last graduating class from the Charleston campus before the school moved to Charlotte, NC. Through working different positions in the front and back of the house in hotels, restaurants, country clubs, and college campuses, Drew gained experience and a thorough knowledge of food, wine, beer, and mixology. He continues to be a student of the game, soaking up inspiration from chefs all over the world. It is a personal goal for him to continue learning the latest styles, techniques, and ingredients that professional cooks are using. He has a fascination with authentic international cuisine and culture. He believes in a philosophy that food is the thing that transcends all boundaries and binds everyone together.

We had the most wonderful evening with Chef Drew! The entire evening was outstanding! Every single course was so absolutely delicious and we are all still talking about how amazing his food was. Each course was some of the best meals we have had. Chef Drew was also so friendly and we enjoyed getting to talk with him and ask him questions about the culinary world. It was just an amazing night and we will definitely request another evening with his talented chef skills the next time we are in the area. Thank you so much!

We hired Drew for my husband’s birthday and are already talking about having him come back. Drew was incredibly personable and provided top notch service, creating an entire experience. None of us could pick a favorite dish, because they were all so delicious!

Our group had an amazing time at Food Fire + Knives! There were 9 of us, in town for a bachelorette weekend, and we contacted them through their website about two weeks ahead of our requested date. Michael was able to accommodate us and find us a kitchen space to rent for the class (we were in a hotel without a kitchen to use). Chef Drew was phenomenal, and his assistant was lovely and sweet as well. They worked with me on the menu and were very willing to make substitutions for certain food allergies and preferences. They also spent a significant amount of time with us helping us to actually learn the methods for the cuisine of choice. Overall this was a great experience, and I highly recommend this company to anyone looking for private cooking lessons or a personal chef!

I LOVED my experience with this company! From my very first email asking questions, to the experience itself, to the follow up call with the owner of the company asking how it went, Food Fire + Knives is an A+! The chef, Drew McGarity, was a very personable and funny and also engaged with us and answered all of our questions. The owner, Michael Casciello, responds quickly and is very nice over the phone. I'm already planning to work with them again. I highly recommend this company to any and everyone!

Had an amazing experience with both Michael, the owner, and Chef Drew! Super accommodating and made my mom’s 50th birthday one to remember! Highly recommend for any special occasion for a fun alternative to going out to dinner. We learned so much from Chef Drew about the cuisine he brought and cooking techniques/ tips. We look forward to doing this again!

Highly recommend!! We chose a Japanese cooking class and made Miso soup and sushi, also with a wine paring. It was so much fun and delicious. Drew was fantastic, easy to work with and talk to- can't wait to do it again!!
