About Chef Juwanza
Born and raised in Central Arkansas, Chef Juwanza discovered his passion for hospitality and cooking under the guidance of his grandmother, Jewel, whose traditional Southern kitchen shaped the foundation of his culinary philosophy. After refining his craft throughout Texas, Arkansas, and Louisiana, including work within James Beard–nominated restaurant groups, Chef Juwana relocated to the Rocky Mountains of Colorado where he would begin developing his culinary style which is deeply rooted in Southern tradition while drawing influence from Japanese, Mexican, Italian, both Cajun & Creole cultures of Louisiana, and finally the flavors, styles, and ingredients of the American Southwest.
Specializing in various styles of live-fire cooking, meat butchery, handmade pasta, sushi & Japanese cooking, elevated comfort food, and ingredient-driven dining, Chef Juwanza blends refined technique and fresh local flavors with warm hospitality to create memorable culinary experiences. In 2022, he founded Southern Jewel Hospitality based in Colorado Springs, offering private chef services, catering, supper clubs, cooking classes, and handcrafted small-batch condiments inspired by the Rockies and the American South.
